For Gavin (a Singaporean Chinese) and Annie (who is from Burma), it wasn’t love at first sight (or encounter, in their case). They first met when Annie helped out as an interpreter for Gavin’s new Burmese maid. Theirs was a classic case of “judging a book by its cover”: Annie saw Gavin as an “Ah Beng” with his thick gold chain around his neck, while Gavin felt Annie looked like a village girl. Things quickly changed once they got to know each other better. It is also a tale of quirks and faith, interestingly enough. Years before he met Annie, Gavin helped to raise a Burmese boy, which he says is good karma and coincidentally led him to meet Annie. In Annie’s case, a fortune-teller once predicted that she will marry someone older than her from overseas.
As their love for each other blossomed over the years, Gavin decided that Annie was the one for him and planned his proposal to be in the Maldives, while they were on holiday. He proposed to Annie with a monkey soft toy and a ring, singing John Legend’s All of Me as he did so.
For the engagement pictorial, together with Vocare Media as their videographers, we conceptualized a picnic setting at the Singapore Botanical Gardens. They were naturals! To add to the sweetness, they brought along their black chihuahua Miu Miu to the shoot. We were pretty amused and touched when we heard how Miu Miu would protect the person it thinks was being ‘bullied’ by continuously barking at the other person. It’s really heartwarming to know how Miu Miu will do its best to ensure the couple’s love for each other always remains strong.
