Sometimes love blossoms when you least expect it, and this could not be further from the truth for Colin and Denise. They first met when they were paired up to help out at the 2009 Canadian elections. Things did not get off to a great start, at least from Denise’s point of view as she found him to be a little less forthcoming and helpful than she had hoped for. Colin, on the other hand, was attracted to her, and their interactions grew as they chatted over MSN for a number of months. Very soon, feelings developed, and the rest is history.
Fast forward a number of years later, in March this year, Colin decided to propose to Denise. He did it while it was raining and he held the umbrella in one hand, and got down to his knee and whipped out the ring with his other hand! It absolutely caught Denise by surprise – which is perfect for a proposal! We love to hear about unique proposals, and this has got to be one of the most unique proposals ever, at least from the kind of condition that they were in at that time.
Just before the proposal, Denise had planned a trip to Singapore with her family and Colin. Denise is actually a Singaporean-Canadian, born in Singapore but lived almost all her life in Canada. She thought, why not have an engagement photoshoot during their 2-week holiday in Singapore! And so, she googled and found us online, which was also how a Russian couple found us to document their holiday in Singapore last year as well. But for Colin and Denise, it was extra special for them since it was going to be an engagement photoshoot and not just an ordinary holiday photoshoot.
Since Colin had never been to Singapore and Denise hasn’t been here for the past 10 years, they wanted their photos to show some of Singapore’s skyline and greenery, and also unique aspects of Singapore. For the latter, we brought them to the food street at the Singapore Flyer (Singapore Food Trail) and they tucked into a hearty plate of char kuay teow!
The couple will be getting married in Canada in May next year, and we wish them all the very best in their life journey ahead! 🙂
Review by Colin & Denise
I stumbled across Awesome Memories Photography while I was searching for local Singaporean photographers. Colin and I recently got engaged prior to our vacation trip to Singapore so I contacted Awesome Memories to see if they could help us capture this cherishing moment. As we weren’t in the country for long, Michelle and her husband Alvin were very accommodating with our tight schedule.
Michelle and Alvin showed amazing professionalism. I love pictures that capture very natural moments of couples and when I explained that’s what I wanted, Michelle and Alvin did just that- our photo shoot couldn’t have been anymore perfect! They went above and beyond our expectations and I am so honored to have been able to meet with such a lovely couple!
