The love of Tom and Sui Lee has traversed many cities. Tom is from USA, while Sui Lee is from Singapore. They met for the first time in Hong Kong where they worked and fell in love. Thereafter, he moved to London, she moved to Beijing, he moved to Beijing to be with her, and they got married right here in Singapore!
I was super excited to shoot their wedding, partly due to the fact that Tom and Sui Lee planned for a ‘First Look’. Although this is not something that is done frequently in Asian / Singapore weddings, it is actually quite a common practice in western weddings. The reaction, the expression, the emotion, of the couple, as they see each other for the first time all dressed up for their big day, are natural moments that are absolutely priceless! You never know what you are going to get at that split second, and it’s moments like these which fill my heart with warmth as I see the couple embracing each other with all their love. 🙂
When Alvin and I met up with Tom and Sui Lee one week before their wedding (as we always do with our couples), we asked Sui Lee if she had a picture of her wedding gown. It was quite funny as she had to secretly show us the picture on her handphone without Tom seeing it! It’s quite different from what happens in most local weddings as couples usually choose their suit and gown together. In this case, Sui Lee had to choose her gowns on her own, in order to give Tom a big surprise during the First Look! I love the idea though, and wish more of my brides could do it too! But I have to admit, going by the usual traditional schedule of gatecrashing and all, it may be a bit tough to incorporate the First Look scenario.
The holy matrimony of Tom and Sui Lee took place in St. Teresa Church in the morning. It was nice of the couple to have freshly brewed coffee from Nylon Coffee Roasters for the guests during the lunch reception. As for the wedding dinner, Party Perfect was engaged to style the colonial Alkaff Mansion with mint and cream colour scheme. Other vendors included Guanxian and Moxi from A Little Dream who serenaded everyone with their lovely songs and tone of voice, and even a DJ for the dance floor segment. Speaking of dance floor, that was one of the highlights of the evening. With retro dance songs played back-to-back, no one could keep their bodies still! Even we couldn’t resist tapping our feet to the music while trying to capture the happening moments on the dance floor.
All in all, it was such a joyous occasion and for Tom and Sui Lee, although they do not live in Singapore at this moment, they have now created Awesome Memories in Singapore!
